The Tin Man from the Wizard of OZ is so familiar to us all.  Who hasn’t seen this silvery guy bounding around on out flat screens.  As  kids the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion played big parts in our dreams, especially after seeing the movie for the 5th time in a row on a Thanksgiving night.  It still bears so much signifigance to so many, young and old. Oh memories, memories.  Here, take a look at Dorothy meeting the Tin Man for the first time.

What did you think?  Does that bring back some old memories?

Well after that trip down memory lane, I should probably get around to the subject at hand.  I mean, the whole reason all this daydreaming started was because of the Tin Cruiser from Filson.  Yep, we went through all of that for this. The TIn Cruiser.  A coat developed and patented in the year 1914 by Clinton C. Filson.  Mr. Filson was an outfitter to the entrepenuers of yesteryear heading to the Klondike Gold Rush.  When the gold rush thing dried up he continued to have demand from those who worked outdoors for innovative products.  That’s when he came up with the Filson Cruiser.  Originally this coat was designed for those in the logging industry but soon was discovered and adopted by anybody who works outside or simply enjoys the outdoors for recreational pursuits.  The funny thing is that the Tin Cruiser has remained Filson’s best selling item, with over a half million units sold.  Take a look at this beauty.

Why is it called the Tin Cruiser?  Because it’s made out of Tin Cloth.  What’s Tin Cloth you ask?  Let me explain.  This coat is made out of 100% cotton duck.  That means canvas to us not in the textile industry.  They start with the cotton duck, then they soak it in a parrifin based wax.  The end result is breathable, water repellant tough as tin, fabric.  It perfect for anything outdoors.  It can’t be washed because it isn’t preshrunk. You just brush it or wipe it off.  That’s pretty much a dream for any man and their clothing.  It grows weathered and darkens with time.  Kinda like a natural finished leather.  All this for $225.00.  Plus it comes in sizes for almost everybody.  If this jacket doesn’t suit your fancy, the great thing about Filson is that they make several other items of clothing out of Tin Cloth.

Now you don’t have to make a choice between Tin Man or Tin Cloth.  You can be both with a TIn Cruiser from Filson.

in My Life

It’s been a long time coming, but the day has finally arrived.  My very own blog.  I’ve entitled it The Colonel’s Journal.  In another post I’ll explain why and how I came to be a Colonel, which will explain why I call this blog/website The Colonel’s Journal. The whole purpose of this blog is to share the latest and greatest of people, places and products.  Life is interesting and I am constantly awed, wowed and  amazed by people, products, and places.

That brings me to todays post.  Last night we hosted a dinner party at our home.  When the couple arrived at our front door they had a package in their hands.  It was a host/hostess gift for me and my wife.  We always tell our friends to please not bring anything to our house.  We just enjoy seeing and sharing the evening with them.  But this particular couple doesn’t listen very well.  And last night I was glad they didn’t.

My wife was encouraged almost immediately to unwrap the package.  Inside were two of the most fantastic paintings our guest had painted of both our dog and cat.  Our guest is an animal lover just as we are.  So it was no surprise that she had taken a couple of pictures my wife had texted to her and used them as her inspiration.
